The New Orbital Highway Contract 2 stemmed from the intention to bypass Doha City by connecting Salwa Road and North Relief Road, thus relieving the existing traffic congestion expected to increase in the coming years. Located in the North-West of Doha, it is the latest contract awarded by Ashghal to our Joint-venture with Bin Omran, a local contracting company specialized in earth and road works.
NOH2 consists of 10 lanes (5 in each direction) for light vehicles with additional Collectors/Distributor roads. Four separate dedicated truck lanes (2 in each direction) run parallel to the Orbital from Salwa Road to Junction 5 where a 320m long cut and cover tunnel splits away from the light vehicle carriageway towards Junction 12 Dukhan interchange. The typical cross-section has a provision for an additional 2 future lanes in each direction therefore the total width has a provision for 18 lanes of traffic.
When completed, the road network will provide access to the existing and planned developments via the 8 interchanges. NOH2 is connecting local roads and existing highways via 8 interchanges with various types of civil structures to be designed and built by the project’s team. These include bridges, viaducts, underpasses and tunnels and will integrate pedestrian and bicycle paths along the entire route. Below is the full list of structures to be completed as part of the JV’s NOH2 contract.
