Annual QDVC safety campaign tackles driving risks
Doha 26th November 2015 – QDVC launched the second annual company-wide awareness campaign highlighting commitment of the Company to safety, This year the campaign which took place during ‘International Safety Week’ focused on promoting road safety and responsible driving, reinforcing QDVC’s safety culture.
The 2015 campaign which was geared towards reducing road risk; consisted of five, one day workshops held at QDVC’s head office in addition to its 5 working sites: Sheraton Park project, Red Line South project, New Orbital Highway project, Light Railway Tram LRT project and Lusail underground project between the 22nd and the 26th November. The initiative reached more than 5000 employees including QDVC’S partners, sub-contractors and clients, raising awareness about employee transportation and worksite equipment operation.
Yanick Garillon QDVC CEO Said: “As part of our HSE efforts, we identified ‘International Safety Week’ as an ideal opportunity to spread awareness about safe driving among our employees and shareholders. Safety is a core value of our organisation and a top priority in all areas of the company’s business and operations.’ The 5 day safety campaign was organised with the support of the Ministry of Interior Traffic Department and Qatar International Safety Center (QISC) as a joint event which aims to increase awareness in order to reduce fatalities and prevent serious injuries resulting from road accidents in Qatar.
Lt .Abdul Wahid Ghareeb Al Anzi, Traffic Awareness Officer, at General Directorate of Traffic said : “We’re all exposed to the risks of driving every day. It’s a serious concern in Qatar and we try to tackle the issue in a country where 1,000,000 vehicles registered nationally. We were delighted to be asked by QDVC to support the event as part of their ongoing safety week campaign and we are very pleased to have reached 5000 employees over the course of the five days.” The daily workshop consisted of theory and practical sessions which were tailored to the Qatari driving environment and attendees were coached on how to reduce driving risks by anticipating situations and making safe, well-informed decisions through various presentations and videos.
